In an idyllic lake region in northeastern Poland, a local artist couple has handcrafted a unique hotel gallery and hospitality.
The handcrafted and natural interiors of Hotel Galery69 are the antithesis of anything that can be thrown away.
Małgosia and Wojciech Żółtowsky handmade the furniture for their lakeside hotel using natural materials. The couple's designs are modern - they are bold and personal interpretations of a landscape dotted with lakes - but never so bold as to detract from the natural charm of the region. Furniture found throughout the building is offered for sale under their label, Manufaktura69.
In keeping with local building traditions, Hotel Galery69 is clad in whitewashed wood planks.
Together with the traditional 45-degree pitch of the roof, this helps the large building blend in well with the smaller farmhouses and cottages of the surrounding village. The lakeside location offers stunning views of the water and sky, and all around the hotel the rural landscape is welcomed by large expanses of glass.
Lake Wulpińskie, in northeastern Poland, is both frozen and sun-drenched, showing off in all its glory.
Visit it in winter, and you can ice skate as the snow gently falls on the red roofs of the lake's cottages. Make the same trip in summer and you can spend relaxing days fishing, swimming or kayaking while a warm breeze sweeps across the surface of the water.
